How effective are job fairs in helping land a job?

Husband attended a job fair two days ago and handed out /filled out applications with about 7-8 companies. What could be the outcome? I know it depends on his skills, but realistically, what are the odds?|||Tell him to do call backs to check on the applications. I work with two job developers and they say networking and calling back are the best options in this case.
