How do I rent a duplex without a job?

I was just medically discharged from the military so I am currently job-less but my boyfriend and I need to rent a place by the 15th of May. He has a full-time job that pays well but bad rental history, I have no rental history and no job but am actively seeking. What should I do? Do they actualy do job references? Can I lie and say I do have a job? I%26#039;m really stressed out and not sure the smartest way to go about this, any info would be greatly appreciated, thanks.|||Most landlords will check credit and job references. Don%26#039;t lie on your application. If you get caught in a lie, you won%26#039;t get the apartment. Your best bet is to be honest on your application and explain your situation. You should consider renting an inexpensive room in a house for a bit until you have a job. Pay on time every month to build better references for you and your boyfriend. Then you%26#039;ll be able to qualify for a place of your own in 6 months or so with no problems. Craigslist is a good place to find different kinds of rentals, especially if you need one right away. Good luck!

update: If you get disability pay, you can count that as income on your rental application.|||Not all landlord check references and jobs (those are called the irresponsible ones), but yes, you can lie. It%26#039;s unethical but as a landlord, there is no way we can verify 100% a tenant says is true, we depend on their integrity and reputation to uphold the truth. You can claim you have a job, but some landlord may ask to get a glimpse of your recent pay stub or so on.

If you want to rent, you can offer a deposit or try to act and cooperate in good faith to offer a winning deal for both sides.
