My last job was horrible, and I suffered through it for 2 years. My employer told us all to find new jobs because she was going to either fire us or lay us off. Sooooo, after two of us started looking, we both got fired. The problem is, they didn%26#039;t use this as a reason. They pulled our computers and accused us of spending too much time on the internet for personal reasons, and called it insubordination and poor work performance. What do I put on another job application? If I lie, will anyone even find out? I%26#039;m not sure what to do!|||I own a resume building business and I deal with this question a lot. Here is the most important thing. DO NOT PUT DESCRIPTIVE REASONS FOR LEAVING YOUR JOBS ON YOUR RESUME OR APPLICATION. Theo nly thing that matters is that you are loking for a new position. When they ask for your reason for leaving, you simply state %26quot;Pursuing other professional/career interests%26quot;. That is a 100% true statement and raises no suspicion. I have a 97.5% placement rate for my local clients, so I know this works.
Also, if you are using a resume, your reasons for leaving ANY job (good or bad) do not belong on your resume.
Your real reason for leaving is (1) too much detail and (2) not a part of your skills qualifications. If you don%26#039;t have any positive references from that job, the only contact you should give them is the HR or corporate office for verification of employment. Let me know and I can help you work through that.|||Don%26#039;t worry about it...if another company calls them, they aren%26#039;t allowed to give out more than the fact you worked for them and from what date to what date....there were lawsuits that caused this change a few years back and I have personally seen it in action...the employers were very strict with anyone handling the phone with other prospective employers about recently %26#039;let go%26#039; employees...no matter how bad an employee they were, there was to be NO derogatory insinuations at ALL.
I%26#039;ve seen this at three different companies.
Idaho Opal and Gem Corp.
Farmers Insurance Group
Lewis Mechanical and Metalworks|||Keep in mind that most former employers can only tell your prospective employers that you worked there and for how long, and whether you are eligible for rehire. Do yourself a favor, tell your prospective employer what they want to hear. Also, have a friend call for a reference check to find out what your former employer is saying (plan this part out, it helps if you know someone with a business). If they are trashing you, you might want to see a lawyer.|||Just tell them the truth.....the fact that you worked one job for two years is what they will focus on. employers want someone who%26#039;s consistent, and reliable. so just tell them what was going on. if you don%26#039;t, they might call your previous employer and get the wrong idea, so you have to set the record straight first. but even so, the fact that you kept that job for two years will grab their attention more than why you got fired.|||just say that you worked for that company, and learned a lot from the experiance
you dont need to put exactly what ended the employment|||Write down: LAYOFF. Use things to your benefit not the employers. If your interviewer calls to find out your employment at that previous employment you were fired at, all the employer can say is that she worked here from this date til this date. If they say anything more they are liable.
