I%26#039;ll have my A%26amp;P at the beginning of next summer and I realy want to get into jets. Every job I find wants 3+ years experience, even for GA. I really dont want to work GA. Where can I find a place to work that will take someone with no real experience?|||Try a third party MRO, like Goodrich and the like.
Aviation is booming right now and lots of places are screaming for people. They pull people off the street to do interior and cleaning work, so with an A %26amp; P you should be able to get something.
I got my start at Kelowna Flightcraft who does Purolator%26#039;s air cargo and third party maintenance in Kelowna BC. I started working on Convair 580s and Boeing 727s. I went through everything from line maintenance to D checks and cargo and air tanker conversions, scraping PRC in fuel tanks to doing module replacements on Allison 501D turboprops. As an apprentice, they even let me startup a 727 (with help of course).
I also worked (still do occasionally) at Cascade Aerospace in Abbostford BC on contract doing Alaska and Continental Airlines checks and they also hired people right out of school. But they were stuck in tool crib, stores, or the interiors department for the first few months.
There are plenty of turbine engines in GA too (just look at the Cessna Caravan, Piper Meridian, Beechcraft King Air, and Cessna Citation) and I personally find it more enjoyable (especially since I get to test fly all of the airplanes I work on). Many large MROs have an engine shop or dedicated engine guys so if you want the best experience on turbines (like the nitty gritty tearing them down to almost nothing) GA is the way to go.
As for the 3 years thing, don%26#039;t pay attention to it. The only companies that don%26#039;t hire new apprentices are some airlines and some private air operators (where they only have one or two mechanics for one jet).
Good luck|||My suggestion is join the Air Force Reserves or check out Air Force Materiel Command website for civilian jobs at Air Force depots.
http://www.afmc.af.mil/|||Give Horizon Air a look. We hire people right out of School. I am not sure we will be hiring at that time.|||I would recommend looking at a small airport garage as a general worker, telling them your desires to move up to turbines. Or, join the National Guard or USAF. You%26#039;ll get the education plus they%26#039;ll pay you!
